For the Managed Hosting Global Market Overview, Spring 2009 report, Tier1 Research has for the first time split the traditional managed hosting report into two parts. This report follows on the heels of the recently published Managed Hosting Report US Market Overview, Winter 2009. In contrast to that traditional managed hosting report, which tends to be more US-centric, this report focuses on the truly global companies in the managed hosting space, as well as spotlights regionally focused managed hosting providers that are prominent in non-US markets, including Canada, Europe, Africa, South America, the Middle East, Asia and Australasia.
This report gives the reader an idea of the overall drivers of managed hosting services in those markets. It also summarizes the major events and trends shaping the market in 2009. The potential monetization of features that virtualization technology offers managed hosters, the level of application-aware capabilities being driven by new market sectors, the investment in software-as-a-service (SaaS) facilitation platforms, heightened security and disaster recovery technologies, and the partnerships with on-demand storage providers are all developments that appear to be drivers of the industry that will continue into 2009. The report looks at the global organizations involved in outsourced managed services and enablement technologies and discusses how these players are helping to publicize the benefits of managed infrastructure services over in-house IT management.
The major part of this report provides strategic data on the most recognized managed hosting players in each of the global markets. The information includes competitive profiles of the most prominent managed hosters in the US and the UK and their play in Europe; the surprisingly consolidated but fast-growing market of South Africa, the rationale behind expansion into Asia, and projects currently underway in China that promise to have an impact on the globalization of managed hosting services. The Middle East, Australasia and South America also provide large opportunities for managed hosters that understand the dynamic challenges involved in doing business in those parts of the world. Of significance has been the slowdown in growth from mid-2008 that has had an impact on the global economy in unfortunate and opportunistic ways. Finally, a look at what 2009 holds in store for the managed hosting market on the global front and which service providers will be best positioned to exploit the opportunities in the market.
