Internet Infrastructure Mergers and Acquisitions - 1H10, Volume 1: Hosting
Analyst report by 451 Research, published on 11/2/2010
The M&A Review is an invaluable tool for investors and industry executives who want to understand the M&A arena for the Internet infrastructure space.
Due to length, we have broken this edition of the report into two volumes based on sub-sectors; volume 1, which covers hosting, including mass-market hosting, managed hosting and cloud services and volume 2, which includes CDN and multi-tenant datacenter (MTDC) deals. In the case of mixed services providers that offer both managed hosting and colocation services, the deals were categorized by their focus, although in many cases it was a combination of getting multiple assets or business lines. Going forward, Tier1 Research is considering publishing the report on a quarterly basis (as opposed to half yearly) and it will include all of the Internet infrastructure industry.
The report presents key details of numerous deals, followed by an in-depth analysis summarizing the impact on the companies involved and the sector itself. It also identifies important M&A trends – present and emerging.
The deals are grouped according to four categories: Acquisition of complementary hosting and infrastructure lines, consolidation and rollup, acquisition of complementary technology and capabilities and private equity and venture capital deals.
Tier1 Research uses its parent company’s proprietary merger and acquisition database, The 451 Group M&A KnowledgeBase, to complete each deal profile, as well as to track M&A deal value and volume statistics.
The individual transactions analyzed in this report specifically include deals in the mass-market hosting, managed hosting and cloud services sub-sectors. Also, additional deals such as CenturyLink/Qwest were included in the individual deal transactions in order to address their impact on and implications for the Internet infrastructure market, but were not included as part of the comprehensive M&A data, as they fall outside of the defined sector.
