Almost five years since the advent of commercially successful 'cloud computing' infrastructure, cloud services - those consumed on demand, with programmatic and online access, and the illusion of infinite scale - have become 'normalized.' However, this has led to the 'great divide' between existing IT infrastructure providers - and how they have always done business - and what is expected by the customer today. New requirements are blurring many previously accepted lines between the major domains of digital infrastructure - datacenters, telecoms and hosting, applications and IT services.
Many service providers have found ways to successfully capitalize on the cloud trend. But rather than 'the cloud' subsuming demand for IT infrastructure, it looks like the business of providing IT is absorbing the cloud model instead.
