Managed Hosting Market Overview 2010: North America

Analyst report by 451 Research, published on 10/20/2010

The North American managed hosting sector has continued its rebound through 2010, and although the recovery of the broader economy has certainly helped the Internet infrastructure as a whole, and managed hosting in particular, the trajectories of many of the individual market segments are affected by cloud computing.
Delayed somewhat by the economic downturn, cloud computing is now entering a ‘second phase’ of adoption as customers continue to demand ways to drive IT costs down.
To that end, we are starting to witness the blending of ‘managed hosting’ and ‘cloud computing’ offerings together into ‘managed cloud’ types of engagements, where a provider might manage either an entire private cloud structure for a customer or perhaps some (but not necessarily all) virtual instances for a customer within its public cloud capability.
SaaS is also helping drive cloud adoption among both private and government organizations, but is also driving infrastructure into hosting providers as well. Managed hosting providers that can handle the full range of operations management that an ISV might need to bring a SaaS offering to market will be well positioned to take advantage of the needs of new SaaS providers coming to market.
Telcos have also awoken to cloud computing, and are in a unique position to bundle cloud services with hosting and leverage their communications backbones to create a fully integrated outsourcing approach for enterprise IT customers.
