The midyear update to our Internet Datacenter Supply Report: 2009 provides revised metrics for supply and demand growth as well as utilization data for multi-tenant Internet datacenters, including projections through 2012 for each of the top IDC markets in North America and the Asia-Pacific region. The intended audience for this report includes wholesale datacenter, colocation and hosting providers making building and pricing decisions; financial professionals considering investment in datacenter properties; and real estate and planning professionals interested in market-by-market analysis of the multi-tenant datacenter space.
Additions to this report include a new emerging market (Atlanta) and analysis of the impact that cloud and virtualization technologies will have on datacenter supply and demand. Previously included analysis of the European markets has been replaced in this report by analysis of the Asia-Pacific region, including Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore and Sydney.
Several million square feet of datacenter space were toured to compile this report. Tight capital and unavailability of reasonable debt financing options have significantly impacted top-market datacenter utilization as well as the pipeline for future expansion. This report discusses the impact that the credit crunch has had on the datacenter industry and how constrained datacenter space really is.
